In previous articles, we covered the 2023 World Championships and the 2024 World Championships.
Today, we're revisiting this year's event.
This World Championship was marked by a Made in USA victory, as: in the Pokémon Scarlet and Purple video games, the Junior Division title went to Luke Whittier of the United States, who defeated Japan's Sosuke Arinori in the final; in the Senior Division, Kevin Han, also of the United States, triumphed over South Korea's Sian Lee; and finally, the Masters Division saw the talent of Giovanni Cischke, also of the United States, emerge.
But the champions don't end there!
In the TCG, Yuya Okita of Japan won the Junior Division against Jose Cruz Galindo Resendiz of the United States; in the Senior Division, China's Fuguan Liao took the title, leaving Brazil's Gabriel Fernandez in second place; In the Masters, Canadian Riley McKay prevailed over American Justin Newdorf.
In Pokémon GO, India's "Beelzeboy" defeated Spain's "P4T0M4N," while in Pokémon UNITE, the title went to team PERU UNITE, who defeated the Japanese ZETA DIVISION in the grand finals.
There was no shortage of important news.
The Pokémon Company announced the release of PokémonXP, a new entertainment experience, at the 2026 World Championships, taking place in San Francisco from August 28 to 30.
The company also announced that the next edition of the video game championship will take place on the upcoming turn-based strategy title Pokémon Champions. With the launch of the experience, expected in 2026, Trainers will compete in Ranked Battles where Pokémon will have the opportunity to Mega Evolve;
New Mega Attack rarities have been introduced to the card game. These cards feature illustrations that include attack names in katakana, a reference to the original Mega Evolution Pokémon-EX from the XY Series. Among the Mega Attack rare cards coming to the Pokémon TCG are Mega Charizard X-ex, Mega Gardevoir-ex, and Mega Lucario-ex.
The Pokémon Company has no intention of stopping, but rather of continually expanding the universe of these Japanese monsters.
We can't wait for summer and the next World Championships!
