Grace Bumbry (St. Louis, January 4, 1937) is an American mezzo and soprano.
Grace Melzia Bumbry belongs to the generation of black singers who emerged in the second half of the twentieth century, following the pioneer Marian Anderson, and other famous artists such as Leontyne Price, Martina Arroyo, Shirley Verrett and Reri Grist.
Initially, Grace Bumbry played mezzo-soprano roles, but later, being gifted with a falcon soprano voice, she expanded her repertoire to include, to a greater extent among those performed, the role of dramatic soprano. In the seventies and eighties he considered himself to all intents and purposes a soprano, even if the critics did not always agree. In the nineties, now at the end of his career, he returned to cover roles as a mezzo-soprano.
