Donizetti L'Elisir D'Amore Decca 2 CD
L'Elisir d'amore is a playful melodrama in two acts by Gaetano Donizetti with a libretto by Felice Romani.
The story revolves around the events of the humble farmer Nemorino, in love with Adina and unable to declare himself. The balance is abruptly interrupted with the arrival of Dulcamara (Donizetti's charlatan), who - posing as a doctor - sells Nemorino an elusive love elixir...
The opera was performed for the first time on 12 May 1832 in Milan, at the Teatro della Cannobiana.
Felice Romani had drawn inspiration for his libretto from a text written the year before by Eugène Scribe for the composer Daniel Auber, Le Philtre (The Filter).
The cast of the first staging was composed as follows: Sabina Heinefetter (in the role of Adina), Giuseppe Frezzolini (Dulcamara), Henry Bernard Debadie (Belcore), Giovan Battista Genero (Nemorino) and Marietta Sacchi (Giannetta) directed by Alessandro Rolla.
