Deutsche Grammophon Beethoven Symphonie N 9 Whiener Philharmoniker Claudio Abbado CD
«Freude, schöner Götterfunken». In Schiller's Ode to «Joy, beautiful divine spark», Ludwig Van Beethoven read the aspiration for freedom and a world in which «Alle Menschen werden Brüder», all men become brothers. He chose precisely those verses to gloriously seal his Ninth Symphony which turned 200 last month (it was performed in Vienna on 7 May 1824). A monument of music and a revolutionary masterpiece that the Wiener Philharmoniker, direct heirs of the "premiere" orchestra, have played with various conductors: among the excellent live recordings, the one from 1987 with the baton of Claudio Abbado.
