At What Price Hollywood? - RKO Collection Film DVD
Plot:
Discovered by a director, a waitress becomes a movie star. He will always be grateful to him, even when a passion for alcohol ruins his life. Despite its ups and downs, inventions and stereotypes, it remains one of the sharpest, most merciless (but also witty) Hollywood films about Hollywood. In drawing his alcoholic character L. Sherman kept an eye on his brother-in-law John Barrymore and Bennett is very good. Produced by D.O. Selznick, written by Gene Fowler and Rowland Brown from a short story by Adela Rogers St. John. He inspired the 3 versions of A Star Is Born (1937, 1954, 1976), the 2nd of which, and the best, was directed by Cukor himself.
