Ella Fitzgerald And Louis Armstrong Porgy & Bess CD
Porgy and Bess is the thirteenth studio album by jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, released on Verve Records in 1957.
The album features trumpeter Louis Armstrong and consists of tracks written by George and Ira Gershwin for the play Porgy and Bess.
The latest and most successful collaboration between Fitzgerald and Armstrong, irresistible for the combination of their vocal timbres and the occasional clash of personalities. Garcia's arrangements are not particularly inspired and the best results are obtained when the soloists distance themselves from it. Among the most successful pieces are It Ain't Necessarily So, in which Ella Fitzgerald resolutely rejects the dialectal "Negro" pronunciation, and the solemn Summertime, which remains one of the definitive interpretations of the piece. As a bonus, two sparkling live tracks.
