Brandee Younger returns to record for the historic impulse label! This is the time for an explicit homage to the pioneer of the jazz harp, to whom the young artist was compared: Dorothy Ashby. The new album BRAND NEW LIFE is therefore divided between new compositions by Brandee and reinterpretations of some strong pieces from Dorothy Ashby's repertoire. An exponent of a generation of improvisers born in the hip hop years, Brandee succeeds in his aim of making jazz, hip hop, pop and rock coexist. And so, in the company of the aforementioned drummer (and producer) Makaya McCraven, vibraphonist Joel Ross, Rashaan Carter on bass and a vocal cast that goes from Mumu Fresh to Linda and Sharon McNease (joined by Brandee's own voice ) and others among which the guest Meshell N'degeocello stands out, here is a true masterpiece of today's jazz.
