The last Thule is the twenty-fourth and last album of the Italian singer-songwriter Francesco Guccini, released on November 27, 2012. As announced by Guccini, the recordings took place inside the mill of the Guccini family in Pavana.
As the cover of the album Guccini chose a sailing ship in the polar ice, a photo taken by Luca Bracali during his travels. "When I saw that image - explained the Modenese singer-songwriter - I told myself it was her".
The digital edition also contains a video recorded in Pavana in which Francesco Guccini recounts the days of the production of L'ultima Thule.
The songwriter has declared that, after this album, most likely he will not write more songs, nor will he hold concerts and that, in the past, he often meditated to name so the last recording work: L'ultima Thule.
The album proved to be the umpteenth success for Guccini: in just one month it sold more than 100,000 copies, making it one of the five best-selling albums in Italy at Christmas time. At the end of 2013 FIMI awarded him the second platinum record, for over 120,000 copies sold. During the same year, the film Francesco Guccini La mia Thule was made to document the recording of the record, in a special recording room created for the occasion in the mill of Chicòn, in Pàvana, where the singer-songwriter lived and linked some moments of his life and some of his literary works and songs.
Since Guccini retired from the live performances at the end of 2011, this record was not presented on tour by the author; his historical musicians, however, with the exception of Ellade Bandini and Roberto Manuzzi, who did not take part in the project, took the album on tour in 2013, with the addition, under the voice, of Danilo Sacco. The group thus formed, which alternated between the new and historical songs of the singer-songwriter, took the name of Danilo Sacco and the Musicians.
