With this song, sung in duo with Alice, Italy participated in the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest reaching fifth place and was in twentieth place among the best sellers in the same year.
A subsequent solo version is included in the album Mondi distant from 1985. In the collection destined for the Anglo-Saxon market, Echoes of Sufi Dances, an English version appears, with the title of The Trains of Tozeur and in a Spanish-language collection, Ecos de Danzas Sufi, a Castilian version entitled Los trenes de Tozeur is performed. The song refers to Tozeur, a Tunisian town, one of the first oases in the desert after Douz. The city is surrounded by a salt lake (cited «expanses of salt…») whose exhalations in the summer lead wayfarers to see mirages. If once there was talk of black caravans on the horizon, today those mirages can be seen precisely as trains on the horizon. This song is also part of the soundtrack of the film by Nanni Moretti "The mass is over" (1985). On the B side of the single there is an instrumental piece composed by Alice herself, entitled The bicycles of Forlì.
