Benjamin Britten - Peter Grimes - Box set - 2CD

Peter Grimes is a three-act opera by Benjamin Britten, inspired by George Crabbe's poem The Borough, with libretto by Montagu Slater.

The first performance took place, with success, at the Sadler's Wells Theater in London on June 7, 1945 with Peter Pears and directed by Reginald Goodall, achieving critical and public acclaim.

The "village" in which the work is set is very reminiscent of Aldeburgh, a town on the east coast of England, where Crabbe lived, and later also Britten.

With regard to the character of Crabbe, in one of the most complex psychological portraits of contemporary opera, Slater, with Britten and Pears, changed Peter Grimes into a victim of circumstances and community and his violent behavior became the result of his passion for work. without end: a denunciation of the superiority complex of his fellow citizens and their lack of humanity.

The action takes place in a fishing village on the east coast of England, around 1830.
