Caos Calmo Sandro Veronesi
People think of us infinitely less than we think.
- Plot Caos Calmo Sandro Veronesi
"My name is Pietro Paladini, I am forty-three years old and I am a widower".
This is how the protagonist of Calm Chaos introduces himself. A seemingly accomplished man, with a great job, a woman who loves him, a ten year old daughter. But one day, while he saves the life of a stranger, the unpredictable happens, and everything changes.
Pietro takes refuge in his car, parked in front of his daughter's school, and the time of awakening begins for him. Observing the world from the point where he has nailed himself, he gradually discovers the dark side of others, of those bosses, of those colleagues, of those relatives and of all those strangers who, each under the weight of their own burden, rush to him and promptly succumb to his incomprehensible calm. Thus his story becomes immense, and he contains them all, guides them, inspires them.
Veronesi's enveloping writing, his uninterrupted dance between intellect and word is the rope with which Pietro draws the bucket to himself from the bottom of the well. Slowly, without alternatives, determining the conditions for an unprecedented, yet completely natural ending, in which we arrive at the simplest of truths: the acceptance of human nature in its banal, heroic confusion of strength and weakness.
