John Mellencamp The Good Samaritan Tour 2000 CD + DVD
John Mellencamp surprisingly releases a new live album taken from the concerts of the Good Samaritan Tour, recorded during a series of atypical shows in the summer of 2000. In that torrid summer, after completing an extraordinary world tour with his band, John Mellencamp decided to return in close contact with his audience, to travel around the States with his family and with young and unknown musicians to play for free in public squares and on street corners: unannounced concerts, armed with an acoustic guitar and accompanied by a small band, among people, with speakers no bigger than his home stereo, in the spirit of the legendary Woody Guthrie. In Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Nashville, up to his beloved Bloomington, Indiana, improvised sets based on his revisited classics and covers of the boundless American songbook. These recordings reflect the spirit and extraordinary atmosphere of what would later be called, The Good Samaritan Tour and show once again the most intimate Mellencamp, attentive and thoughtful storyteller, authentic voice of American Music.
