Giorgio Scerbanenco Traditori Di Tutti
"Scerbanenco was the father of contemporary Italian crime writers also because he showed how much it was possible to dare with Italian, creating a language suitable for action and anger.
Many crime fiction authors have followed this lesson, thus returning crime to real life ". (From the preface by Cecilia Scerbanenco)
Duke Lamberti was a doctor before ending up in prison for going too far in alleviating the suffering of one of his patients. Perhaps he is a righteous man, he certainly knows how to frequent the dark sides of existence with a certain talent. This quality makes him appreciated when it comes to very special assignments, such as helping a seemingly inexperienced young woman who does not want to disappoint her future spouse.
But Lamberti has a special insight to find out when people lie, and too many things smell burnt in this story.
A couple drowned in their car in the Naviglio outside Milan, in a way reminiscent of a murder that took place several years earlier. A mysterious suitcase that leads to a provincial restaurant where the main dish on the menu does not go very well with the law. A story of spies and betrayals that reopens the wounds of the Second World War. In an Italy where everything is possible but nobody can be trusted, who watches enchantedly while crime stretches its hands under the table, the police again need Duca Lamberti.
"It's hard to kill two people at the same time."
