In 47 BC, while the battle of Zela rages which sees Julius Caesar opposing Farnace king of Pontus, Wurus, an aspiring priestess of the almost extinct people of the hatti, is on a pilgrimage to the shrine of Hattusa. Captured, she becomes the slave of a Roman, merchant and politician in Asia Minor linked to Marc Antony, in whose house she will live almost like a daughter. The girl's name gradually changes from Rus to Rosa.
The young woman is an expert in medicinal plants and manages to create a solid reputation as a healer, so much so that Antonio wants her with him in Tarsus and then takes her to Alexandria in the palace of Cleopatra, where both appreciate her services and become attached to her. A group of Aspiring Priests of the hatti is also traveling to Hattusa: taken prisoner by the victorious army and deported to Rome, they will become a sort of small personal legion of slaves and then freed by Caesar, who is very loyal to him.
One of them will become a skilled warrior, another will reveal remarkable skills of cunning and diplomacy in Rome and at the court of Cleopatra, yet another will get the role of cantor at the circle of Maecenas. Finally, two will be acute and cultured chroniclers. Between Rosa and one of those boys there was a sacred bond that was supposed to lead them to marriage, but how could they be reunited?

He is a writer, poet, literary critic and travel storyteller. To date, he has published 21 books. With Gli Occhi di una Donna he won the Campiello prize in 985. He has been actively involved in Anglo-American fiction, acting for several newspapers.
