Alessandra Jatta Foglie Sparse
Russia, August 1917: the revolution is unstoppable. Ol'ga Pavlovna Olsufieva decides to leave the country estate near Moscow of her husband Vasilij, colonel of the imperial guard engaged at the front, where she took refuge. With her, her five children, aged 11 to 4, and two njanje (nannies).
In the background the First World War, the Bolsheviks, Rasputin, murderers, diseases and social inequalities. During the escape, she and Njanja Keta tell the children about the exploits of the family and their relationship with the tsars. Fates crossed those of the Romanovs and the Olsufievs: the Tsar and his family will be killed in July of '18 in a cellar in the Urals, the Olsufievs will reach Florence in March 1919.
"How could I have even imagined that in Russia things could change gradually, without bloodshed?"
The October revolution told through the incredulous eyes of a noble Muscovite who sees her whole world collapse in an instant. And his determination to try to save, in the disaster, at least his family and dignity. The author makes us relive in an unusual perspective some dramatic moments in Russian history of the last century, showing without veils the thoughts and concerns of an entire social class at the moment of its decline. A true story, in which the use of photos, diaries and documents of Alessandra Jatta's direct ancestors offers an added value to a narrative that leaves one breathless ".
